The trumpet is a member of the brass family. In fact, it has the highest register of any of the instruments in the brass family. Trumpets have been around a long time, one of the oldest. They date back to around 1500 BC. Trumpets rae made of brass tubing that has been bent twice into an
oblong shape. It is played by blowing air through closed lips--this produces a "buzzing" sound which starts a vibrattion in the air column inside the trumpet.
There are several types of trumpet. The most common of the trumpets is pitched in B flat. The modern trumpet has three valves, either piston or rotary. They effectively increase the length of tubing when pressed, which lowers the pitch.
The trumpet is used in many forms of music, including classical music and jazz.
